Dussehra Festival Celebrations in India

The land of India is distinct culture and colorful festivals. All of festivals of India has Its own meaning and purpose of celebration. This festival has a religious historical meaning and inherent values. . It is celebrated on Dashami (10th day) of lunar month.

History & Significance of Dussehra Festival

There are many stories behind its celebration.

The story From Ramayana Where Lord Ram Killed to Ravana

According to great Indian epic, Ramayana Ravana was great scholar but a demon. He was the king of Lanka. He was killed on this day by Rama.

According to West Bengal Where goddess Durga come on the earth

Bengalis believe goddess Durga came on the earth on this day. The meaning of Druga is victory of good over evil.

We celebrate Dussehra so that our evils, which name should conquer as ‘Duss’ means ten and ‘hura’ means defeat. Dussehra is celebrated in all parts of India with joy and fun.



How does we Celebrate Dussehra?

The effigies of the demon kings, Ravana, Kumbhkarana and Meghnath are burnt. The play of Ramayana are staged and fairs are held and sweets are distributed, The children wear new cloths and get toys and sweets.

Sisters put a tilak on their brother’s forehead in some communities on this day. They pray for their welfare. Businessmen worship their account books on this day. Dussehra not only bright joy but also inspire us to win over our bad instinct by good deeds and pious through.
